Echoes of Hong Kong and Beyond (1933)
FORSTER, Lancelot
First edition. Octavo, pp 114. Bound in paper covered hard boards over recent blue card spine. Previous owner’s name to ffep.
A series of short memories and recollections of Hong Kong and Forster’s travels in the region including to Szechuan and Singapore. Lancelot Forster was Professor of Education at The University of Hong Kong during the 1930’s and instrumental in the development of education policy in Hong Kong in the pre-war period. Perhaps his most significant contribution in this field was his founding and chairmanship of the Education Committee at Stanley Internment Camp in 1942. Within a few weeks of three thousand members of all sections of Hong Kong’s expatriate community being sent to interment on Stanley Peninsula, Forster’s Committee had organized schooling for the hundreds of children confined there.
An uncommon book in Very Good condition, binding tight, clean internally other than the small previous owner’s name.
