Innes Ireland was a Formula One driver for Team Lotus from 1959 to 1961. Ireland entered the 1968 London -Sydney Rally in a Mercedes 280 with two friends; although they did not finish, Ireland wrote this excellent account of one of the great long distance motor racing adventures.
