The account of the 1936 British expedition to Mount Everest, led by the author Hugh Ruttledge, who was also the leader of the 1933 expedition. Although the team progressed rather quickly at first, Ruttledge was forced to abort the mission early due to averse weather and early arrival of monsoon. The book describes the reconnaissance, mobilization, and reflections on the ascent; as well as scientific observations of the climb. Profusely illustrated with 63 plates of photographs and two folding maps. A fascinating work for anyone interested in Mount Everest and mountaineering.
