Carte d’une partie des Cotes de la Chine et des Isles Adjacentes (1775)

J.B. D'Apres de Mannevillette

Copper engraving
19" x 13.25"
1775
M0267

A highly important chart published in Neptune Orientale in 1775, and drawing on the surveys and soundings made in 1754-60 by Alexander Dalrymple, Scottish hydrographer employed by the East India Company from 1752.

This is one of the very earliest detailed depictions of Hong Kong and surrounding islands. Hong Kong is marked as Fan Chin Chow with much of the South and West coast of the island clearly delineated but Victoria harbour omitted. Various adjacent islands including Lantao, Lamma, Po Toi, Waglan and Pedro Blanco are detailed.

A deep and fine engraving of a most important map.
