Frosted eye lashes, early in the morning in the Siberian Taïga. It was on a similar small sturdy white horse called Serko that Dimitri Peshkov took his amazing horseback journey, 9,000km across Russia in the winter of 1889-90.

Matthieu Paley

Matthieu Paley was born in France, spent three years studying photography in New York, lived in Hong Kong from 2002 to 2010 and has spent prolonged periods immersed in the land and culture and photographing many remote mountainous regions of Asia including Mongolia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. He is regarded as possibly the finest young explorer-photographer working today in Asia. His photographs have been published in numerous publications including National Geographic, Geo, Time, Outside, Discovery, Vanity Fair and Le Figaro. He has held two solo exhibitions of his work at Picture This Gallery in Hong Kong, and has also exhibited in New York, Paris and Istanbul. His first monograph, Mongolie – La Route de L’Horizon, was published in Paris in 2010, and his Following Jack Kerouac – Portraits of Nomadic America was published in 2011.
