Michael Yamashita's exhibition The Essence of Life held in October to November this year at Picture This Gallery received a great response - thank you to all those who came along. Michael gave a riveting talk during the opening evening about how he captured these remarkable imagws featured in the show. Encompassing twenty-eight images of water and trees shot from all over the world - from places as diverse as Jiuzhaigou National Park, China, to Vermont, USA - the exhibition reveals the beauty and spirit of the untouched natural world.  From now until 31st August, 2009, Picture This proudly present the work of Yau Leung, one of Hong Kong’s most notable photographers, at 3/F, The Landmark.
Yau Leung (1941-1997) is widely regarded as one of the most important and accomplished documentary photographers active in Hong Kong from the 1960’s to the 1990’s. In a style deeply reminiscent of his Western contemporaries Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank, he captured the very essence of the City through his evocative images of its people and streets. Almost exclusively working in black and white, his sharp eye and deft hand captured some of the most iconic photographic images of 1960’s Hong Kong. All photographs are available for purchase. In April, Picture This held its second annual poster exhibition at The Rotunda, Exchange Square. This year’s show, which featured over thirty vintage posters from the 1890's to the 1980's, including rare East Asian and Oriental-themed travel and product posters, and those by the great masters of poster art such Leonetto Cappiello, Gino Boccasile, Vincent Guerra, Munetsugu Satomi, Camille Bouchet and Henri Le Monnier, enjoyed a great response and a packed opening cocktail party.
