11 - 27 Mar, 2010AbstractedNorman de Brackinghe and Tony Price are both Hong Kong based photographers and each has over thirty years of experience in the graphic arts and design fields. This common background and experience allows them both to carry a sensitive appreciation of imagery into their work as photographers. Where Norman finds his artistic expression in the distressed abstraction of Hong Kong's streets and walls, Tony looks up to find abstraction through the reflective patterns in Hong Kong's high rise buildings. Although their subjects are apparently different, this exhibition demonstrates a commonality in the results of their work. The exhibition depicts Hong Kong's urban fabric, its often inconspicuous and overlooked features and its vibrant living spirit.
20 Apr - 8 May, 2010The Art of the PosterHighlights of the exhibition include rare 1951 US original release movie posters for the movie Hong Kong starring Ronald Reagan, posters for movie classics featuring illustrious Hollywood stars such as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Dr. No, Rita Hayworth in Gilda, Marilyn Monroe in The Prince and the Showgirl and Steve McQueen in Le Mans. Other pieces include product and travel posters designed by notable artists such as Cappiello, Villemot, and Boucher. Travel posters cover destinations from Hong Kong, Malaya, and Ceylon, to Australia, the US, and France.
18 May - 21 Jun, 2010An Ethereal World - Journeys to the Edges of AsiaLiving in Hong Kong since 2002, but spending much of his time in the most remote and often highest altitude corners of Asia, Matthieu Paley is an intrepid explorer and award winning photographer. This exhibition comprises 17 photographs taken since 1999 in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Siberia, shot with a mix of medium format and 35mm film. Paley’s work is not easily or simply acquired. Most of these photographs are taken in the depths of winter when the environment is at its most harsh and inhospitable and temperatures drop to -30°c, providing the best light and working conditions for Paley’s ethereal and inspiring photographs. Paley’s work has been exhibited at galleries in France, New York and Munich as well as at the Perpignan Photojournalism Festival, Visa Pour L’image and the Banff Mountain Festival, where he won the 2009 Mountain Culture Photography Competition.
